The Chair of Public Affairs plays a pivotal role in fostering political awareness and civic engagement among PYP members. By organizing candidate forums and other educational opportunities, this role ensures members stay informed and engaged with government, policy, and economic issues in the community, while maintaining PYP's political and economic independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads the planning, organization, and management of candidate forums before elections and additional programs focused on current government and economic issues.
- Develops and executes programming to educate members on policy issues, government affairs, and civic initiatives, reinforcing PYP’s role as an informed, neutral organization.
- Facilitates connections between members and public officials, local leaders, and government agencies, fostering direct engagement and community involvement.
- Keeps members informed about local civic initiatives, programs, and events, enhancing awareness of community priorities.
- Oversees the planning, setup, and cleanup of public affairs events ensuring an engaging and well-coordinated experience for attendees.
- Manages member and attendee check-in at public affairs events to ensure a welcoming and organized experience.
- Assists with capturing photos at public affairs events to document participation and promote engagement within the community.
- Assists with identifying sponsorships and partnerships to support public affairs events.
The Chair of Public Affairs reports to the Vice President of Community Impact and serves on the Community Impact Committee, contributing to PYP's mission of civic engagement and community connection.
Responsibilities of Chairs as Members of the Leadership Team
The mission of Pensacola Young Professionals is to develop, retain, and connect young professionals to the community and each other. Chair positions are a part of the leadership team, but are not voting members of the Board of Directors. Chair positions are entry-level positions designed to provide members with opportunities to get involved in the organization and learn more about the organization.
Each individual Chair is expected to:
- Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Participate fully in their committee and attend board meetings when called upon
- Prepare for and attend all program meetings
- Regularly attend organizational events and provide assistance as needed
- Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and assist with identifying financial resources, sponsorship opportunities, and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
- Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing
- Communicate with PYP members—new and established—to solicit their ideas and help them become/remain actively engaged in the organization
- Raise any general membership matters at committee meetings or to the President or President-Elect when necessary
- Evaluate each event and program at its conclusion and provide feedback for improvement
- Utilize PYP’s Slack channel for regular board communication
- Download and become familiar with GlueUp to assist with attendee check-in as needed.
