To provide you with the opportunity to experience volunteerism, volunteers from Pensacola Young Professionals and Escambia Santa Rosa Bar Association - Young Lawyers Division will be collaborating on a joint community service event on Saturday, November 5th from 9am-12pm. Volunteers will have the opportunity to either sort non-perishable food items, pack boxes for Seniors facing hunger, or help pack backpacks for children that provides food for them over the weekends as well as receive an in-depth introduction and tour of the food bank. In preparation for Thanksgiving and the holidays, volunteers will be able to make a difference for the 1 in 8 individuals and 1 in 6 children in Florida who are food insecure.
Feeding the Gulf Coast, a member of Feeding America, is a local food bank that works through partner organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry because of personal crises or disasters. Feeding the Gulf Coast works to educate the public regarding domestic hunger, proper nutrition, and related issues and is active in the coastal regions of Northwest Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi serving 24 counties across a 22,000 sq mile area.In 2021, Feeding the Gulf Coast, with its 400 partner organizations, distributed over 27.5 million meals to over 80,000 families and individuals in need of assistance. A group of volunteers can sort up to 1,500 pounds of food in one hour, and in 2020, over 23,800 volunteers contributed over 224,550 service hours to the food bank. This volunteer effort saved an estimated $2.2 million of paid staff and operation time, highlighting the impact of volunteering.
