Application Process

Application deadline extended until April 5.  To see a list of available positions for the Summer of 2013, please click here.

Part 1:  Placement Process

  • Students should first peruse the list of available internships and select up to four for which they wish to be considered. Students will list these preferences when they apply to IP.

  • Students must submit an up-to-date resume, a recommendation letter, and the $25.00 application fee* between March 4 and March 29. Resumes (in Microsoft Word format) should be e-mailed to administration@internshippensacola.com. Recommendation letters should be sent to the same e-mail address but must be received directly from the recommender. (See application page for more details.) If you are paying your application fee by check, you should send it to the address provided on the application page.

  • Upon receiving these materials, members of the Internship Pensacola committee will e-mail students confirming their placement on the list of candidates. Students who are still missing materials will be notified by e-mail and should provide the needed materials as soon as possible.

[*Revenue from this fee is used exclusively to cover the operating expenses of the internship program. Copies of the program budget will be made available upon request.]

Part 2:  Evaluation Process

  • Once a student has successfully submitted his/her materials, the Internship Pensacola committee will review the materials to determine if the student meets the program requirements.

  • Students approved by the committee will have their materials passed on to the companies that they have listed on their applications. All companies will receive their designated application packets during the final weeks of March. Companies will then begin scheduling interviews with student candidates. Companies are expected to contact students and schedule interviews within five business days of receiving their application packets.

  • Once the interviewing process begins, companies may choose their intern at any time between March 18 and March 29. Please note that employers are not obligated to interview every single candidate that applies for their position(s).

 Part 3:  Acceptance Process

  • Once a student has been selected for an internship position, the student will be notified by e-mail. With that e-mail, the student will receive an acceptance letter which he/she will be required to sign and return within five business days of receiving it (but only if the student has chosen to accept the offered position). By signing this acceptance letter, a student is agreeing to work for the listed company as per the guidelines of Internship Pensacola (which will be stated in the letter).

  • In addition, students chosen for internships must meet with their department advisor and enroll in the necessary Internship Pensacola credit hours.* Students should register for these credit hours during UWF’s summer registration window, which opens in late March 2012.

  • If the student chosen by a company can not or will not commit to the program, then the company’s second-ranked candidate will be notified and may accept the internship position.

[*Depending on your department's policies, you may be eligible to earn between 3 and 6 credit hours for the internship itself. The only mandatory course is the 3-hour Professional Development Seminar. This team-taught seminar is designed to enhance your internship experience and prepare you for the 21st-century workplace. Topics covered will include career assessment, leadership development, interview techniques, communication skills, and job search strategies. Class sessions will include guided discussions of readings, verbal presentations, group discussions, and role-playing. Also, local business leaders and other guest speakers will present information and field questions in their areas of expertise.]
